Frequently asked questions.

I am hoping my pet might die naturally in his sleep. Is this likely?

Many people wish for this but it doesn't happen very often. If we wait for a pet to die naturally they are likely to experience suffering. Euthanasia is latin for "good death" and with my help your pet will pass peacefully in your arms.

How far ahead do I have to book?

I will try my best to accommodate same day requests. It is best to try to give 24-48 hours notice if possible. It is better for your pet if we plan euthanasia before their condition becomes an emergency.

What happens during your visit?

When I first arrive I will take time to meet you and your pet and to make your pet feel relaxed and at ease. I will answer any questions you may have about the procedure. We will then complete some short paperwork and finalise payment.

When you are ready we will light a candle for your pet. I will then give the initial calming injection under the skin which most pets don't even feel. After about 10-15 minutes your pet will fall into a deep sleep. Your pet will be able to hear you during this time and I encourage you to speak to him/her. I will then clip the fur on your pets leg (front or back) and place an IV cannula. The euthanasia solution will be given through this cannula when you and your pet are ready.

Your pet will pass peacefully in your loving presence.

Once I confirm your pet has passed I will leave you to have as much time as you need with your pet. When you are ready I will make the clay paw-print impression (optional) and then I will transport your pet for aftercare.

Do I have to be present for the euthanasia?

You are welcome to leave the room at anytime and to return whenever you like. I can carry out the procedure by myself so you do not need to be present. If your animal is likely to be aggressive then please notify me upon booking and I will bring a nurse with me.

Is euthanasia painful?

No. It is like an overdose of an anaesthetic and your pet will transition peacefully. The only injection that your pet may feel is the initial calming injection. It is given under the skin so feels just like having a vaccination.

If I choose to bury my pet at home are there any regulations?

You need to dig a hole that is at least 1m deep. Ensure that it is in an area that does not flood. You are required to inform your local council that your pet has passed. I will notify your regular vet that your pet has passed, and anyone else you would like me to inform.

How do I make payment and how much is pet euthanasia?

Payment is kindly requested upon booking. I take credit card payments over the phone or I can accept bank transfer, prior to the visit. If you would prefer to pay on the day of the visit we will do this when I first arrive by eftpos, credit card or cash. I always take payment before my service so that you can focus on your own grief and needs after the euthanasia. All our prices are listed on the services page of this website.

I can also offer VetPay but this must be arranged when booking my service so please advise me in advance if you will need to use this form of payment.

What are my aftercare options?

Home burial I leave your deceased pet with you for you to bury at home.

Group cremation I respectfully take your pet with me when I leave. Your pet will be cremated with another one or two animals and the ashes will not be returned but will be scattered in the Pets Eternal Memorial Garden in Greenbank. You are welcome to visit the Garden anytime in the future.

Individual cremation I respectfully transport your pet for cremation. Your pet will be individually cremated and your pets ashes will be returned to you in the vessel of your choice.

I take payment and organise the entire aftercare process. The aftercare cost will vary depending on what you choose. If you cannot decided between group cremation and individual cremation on the day of euthanasia, that is perfectly ok. I can call you the following day after you have had more time to process.

Burial at a Pet Cemetery in Greenbank Please contact Pets Eternal to organise this or discuss further.
